Nagpur : In good news that makes Nagpurians proud, the city’s own Nilesh Bharne, an IPS officer of batch 2005, has been promoted as IG Rank in Uttarakhand. Bharne who had served Second Capital of the State as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and later as Additional Commissioner of Police (CP), is currently posted in Kumaon Range Nainital. His work during the pandemic was hailed by all in Nagpur city.
Bharne is the first IPS Officer in India to get PhD in Forensic Psychology. He did research in Comparative Studies in Lie Detection Techniques (Polygraph, Brain-mapping, Narco) and received his PhD at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in March 2022.
Son-of-the-soil, Bharne belonged to a humble background and faced severe difficulties in his early days in the lanes of Indora in North Nagpur. Braving all adverse circumstances, he cracked UPSC and got selected as an IPS Officer of Uttarakhand Cadre. Bharne has also done a diploma in counselling from Nagpur University and also runs a website channel for depression, suicidal tendencies, marital conflicts, drug de-addiction , mobile addiction in students, career counselling etc.
During the inter-cadre deputation from Uttarakhand to Maharashtra, between 2016 and 2020, Bharne had served Nagpur city as DCP and later as Additional Commissioner. In the pandemic period, Bharne had put in painstaking efforts as he extended assistance to migrants during the lockdown in the city. He also played a key role in the rescue operations at Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, which was hit by a deadly avalanche back in February 2021.
Former colleagues, journalists and friends from Nagpur have expressed joy on Bharne’s achievement and wished him well for his future endeavours.
