– Fake honorary Ph.D. distribution scam

The prestigious educational institution, once lauded for its exclusive programs, now stands accused of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that has sent shockwaves through academic circles.
‘Sprouts’ investigative team delved into the underbelly of the institution’s operations, uncovering a clandestine market where PhDs were allegedly sold like commodities. The expose alleges that the institution, which lacked international recognition, had been capitalizing on the desperation of individuals seeking academic recognition.

The business of selling bogus honorary PhDs is booming not only in Maharashtra but all over India. These PhD-awarding programs are happening almost every day. Most of these events take place at award shows. Complaints about this have been repeatedly made by Sprouts to the University Grants Commission (UGC). But despite all this, sensational information has come to the hands of Sprouts’ Special Investigation Team (SIT) that senior officers of the Commission are pretending to be sleeping by taking money from the bogus university owners.
Presently, award distribution programs are happening in India. All these programs are ‘paid’ with few exceptions. The awardee is charged heavily as much for the program expenses. Apart from this, if the person is to be publicized through the media, a separate fee is charged.
It is in such a program that the ‘buyer’ of the bogus Ph.D. degree is spied on and literally extorted lakhs of rupees from him. In this program, there is a written promise to bring not only the Home Minister, and Education Minister but also retired judges, but in reality, none of them come. Only ‘C’ grade actresses and low-profile political leaders come.
Abhishek Pandey is one such fraudster. Currently, he runs three bogus universities namely Maryland State University, The University of Macaria, and Theophany University. It was previously exposed by ‘Sprouts’. Therefore, the real face of this con man came before the public.
Presently, Pandey has organized an award distribution program to improve his image. This fraudster has also advertised on social media that not only ministers but Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are also invited to this event. Further, he has claimed that the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Tirat Singh Rawat has confirmed his presence at this award show.
He has also invited many other high-ranking officials to his award show. It shall be notable to observe that all these high-profile people will be attending the event to accept awards from such fraudsters and help them to further cheat people. Sprouts and its SIT shall be writing to all officials, ministers and bureaucrats about Abhishek Pandey and his motive.
Pandey is the mastermind of these three bogus universities. Actually, these universities have no legal recognition in any country including India. Therefore, only by printing fake certificates, he extorts lakhs of rupees from the candidates, in the same way, this scammer has literally collected crores of rupees from hundreds of candidates, a demand will be made on behalf of Sprouts to the concerned department to investigate all these malpractices.
Bogus PhD degrees were also distributed in the Journalist Bhavan
Last year, the program of awarding bogus PhD degrees (honorary doctorate-honoris causa) was celebrated with great pomp in the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. This program was accompanied by Ulhas Mungekar, a corrupt officer who was illegally sitting in the Raj Bhavan.
This was also exposed by the ‘Sprouts’ at that time, but the then Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari supported this corrupt officer. Therefore, this incident has not been thoroughly investigated. Even today the same Mungekar is illegally sitting in the Raj Bhavan and doing financial scams.
A similar kind of event took place in Pune, Maharashtra. Actually, Pune is known as the “Oxford of the East”. However, there was a program to distribute bogus PhDs. That too in the journalists building (Patrkar Bhavan) in Nana Peth. The name of this alleged virtual university is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Lok Vidyapeeth.
This university is claimed to be in Amravati. Actually, such virtual universities are not recognized in India. So there is no question of getting it approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This means that this alleged university is completely bogus, yet people’s ignorance is being taken advantage of, and such bogus universities are being run in an illegal manner, what is more unfortunate than that this program should be held in a journalists’ building and the journalists should swallow peanuts and keep silent?
In this program, bogus PhD degrees were given to journalists like Jaypal Patil (Alibaug) and others. This degree certificate has the signatures of Prakash Ghavghave, Mangesh Deshmukh and Nareshchandra Kathole. Even the gang of these three have distributed bogus PhD degrees to many people till now.

Mahendra Deshpande (Nashik) and Vishwas (Vishwasrao) Arote – Akole two journalists have also got bogus PhDs. Sprouts has pointed out that at present these two seem to be bogus PhD degrees in the name of award distribution.
