-Second Highest Passenger Figures as Citizens Use Metro
NAGPUR : Maha Metro Nagpur logged a record ridership on the New Year Day as it crossed the 50,000 mark. Citizens chose to travel by Metro train in a big way as the ridership figures touched 51,670 yesterday (1st January 2022). This is second highest ridership in the history of Nagpur Metro, the highest being 60,171 on 26th January 2021.
With these figures, Maha Metro has overtaken many other Metro services in terms of ridership. In fact, given the trend for some time now, Maha Metro ridership has been continuously on ascend. For some time now, Maha Metro Nagpur has experienced a boom in the ridership in the post-Covid phase.
Being the first day of 2022, Nagpurians, it seems, had made up their mind to enjoy the day. The end result was a record breaking cumulative ridership on the Orange Line (Khapri to Kasturchand Park Metro Station) and Aqua Line (Sitabuldi Interchange to Lokmanya Nagar Metro Station).
Long and serpentine queues were witnessed at the ticket counters of Metro Stations, especially Sitabuldi Interchange, where commuters had lined up to buy tickets for Metro Ride since morning. The concourse, platform all witnessed great rush as Nagpurians rushed to Metro Stations for a ride.
In fact, Maha Metro had made ample preparations in anticipation of this huge response. Staff was adequately deployed at all the Metro Stations. Guards, Station Staff and other essential staff. This historic and record-breaking ridership would definitely go a long way in boosting ridership in Metro trains.
A frequent commuter Smt Anuradha Pande said, “I have never witnessed such a gathering before. This is very encouraging and would go a long way in boosting Maha Metro ridership.” Added businessman Shri Vikas Singh, “The fact that Maha Metro offers a range of facilities like feeder service at Metro Stations adds to the charm of Metro ride.”
The record ridership on New Year Day is a testimony to the commuters’ ever-growing confidence in Maha Metro. With passenger services on the remaining stretches of Orange and Aqua set to start in some time, Maha Metro’s ridership graph is set to climb in the future too.
