VED Urges GoM to Establish Nano Urea Plant in Vidarbha

Nagpur :- The Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED) has formally requested the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) to facilitate the establishment of a Nano Urea manufacturing plant in Vidarbha. This crucial step aims to benefit local farmers by providing more accessible and cost-effective fertilizer options.

A delegation from VED Council, led by President Rina Sinha and Past President Shivkumar Rao, recently met with Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, to discuss the establishment of the proposed plant. The meeting was conducted with the support of Dr. Ashish Deshmukh, Ex-MLA of Maharashtra and proposed Nano Urea Plant and enhance the region’s agricultural capabilities.

Nano urea, a breakthrough innovation in fertilizer technology, uses nanotechnology to deliver nitrogen to plants more efficiently. This sustainable solution ensures better absorption and minimizes environmental impact compared to traditional urea. When applied as a foliar spray, Liquid Nano Urea efficiently penetrates plant leaves, releasing nutrients in a controlled manner and reducing wastage.

IFFCO, a leading cooperative organization, pioneered Nano Urea and has been a significant contributor to agricultural advancements for over 50 years. Developed at IFFCO’s Nano Biotechnology Research Center (NBRC) in Kalol, Gujarat, Nano Urea addresses the limitations of conventional urea and supports enhanced crop yields and soil fertility.

The recent introduction of ‘Nano Urea Plus’—a new version of Nano Urea designed to meet crop nitrogen needs at critical growth stages—has been approved by the government. Nano Urea Plus comes in a liquid form with 16% nitrogen content, a pH value ranging from 4 to 8.5, and a viscosity of 5 to 30. Despite these advancements, the current supply to Vidarbha is limited to IFFCO’s plants in Kalol, Aonla, and Phulpur, leading to higher costs and logistical challenges for local farmers.

Shivkumar Rao emphasized the importance of establishing a local Nano Urea Plus plant in Vidarbha. He highlighted that such a facility would not only increase the availability of this essential product but also reduce costs, significantly benefiting the region’s farmers.

Rina Sinha expressed gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his support and expressed optimism about the positive impact this initiative could have on the Vidarbha region.

The VED delegation included notable members Rajesh Salkotia and Mohammed Master, who also supported the call for the new plant
