Nagpur :- Senior Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Bhushan R Gavai will lead the Indian contingent of judges, jurists and judicial officers for the Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association conference from September 10 at Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. The theme for the conference is ‘Open Justice Today’.
The purpose of this conference is to draw attention to the issues of judicial independence in Commonwealth countries, to change the attitude towards the problems in these countries, and & to enhance networking within the Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association on judicial developments.
The CMJA along with the judiciary of England and Wales has organized this prestigious conclave to mark the 25th anniversary of the Latimer House guidelines and will discuss many themes about the open court, transparency in court reporting, human rights and access to justice in multilingual jurisdictions.
The aim and objectives of the CMJA Conference is to promote better understanding amongst judicial officers of all ranks and from all parts of the Commonwealth of judicial independence issues and to explore the approach to those issues in different parts of the Commonwealth countries. Also to promote greater awareness amongst the magistrates and judges of the Commonwealth, of international treaties and law relating to the development and access to justice, and to consider the practical application of that body of law.
Open court, transparency in court reports, human rights and many other topics will be discussed in this conference. During the conference, Gavai will also attend the Chief Justice and Council meetings. He will deliver the keynote address in the important session. Many present and former Chief Justices of Commonwealth countries are participating in this conference.
