Nagpur :- Street Dogs have come as a major threat to human life as a promising entrepreneur Parag Desai of Wagh Bakri Tea has lost his life. Street dogs or free ranging urban dogs are unconfined dogs those lives in cities.
As per an estimate there are about 35 million stray dogs in India which are often threat to human life as the Country does not have effective systems in place for animal healthcare and control.
Stray dogs often form packs and become aggressive, attacking humans and other animals. These attacks can very well be fatal, as we have seen in the recent unfortunate incident in Ahemadabad costing the life of Desai. This is not the first incident in the Country but every day in one city or another, the people becomes victim of street dogs. The Municipal Corporations or other competent Authorities have utterly failed in protecting citizens from street dogs.
Whenever, any action is taken against street dogs, we have seen dog lovers coming in forefront to raise their voice against any such action. Particularly in group housing residential colonies across the Country, it happens daily.
We urge Union Government to frame an enabling policy for protection against Street dogs and such policy should be strictly enforced by State Governments through local self go vernments.
