Nagpur :- Earth Hour is the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment organized by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), inspiring millions of people to take action for our planet and nature, started in 2007 in Sydney .It is celebrated in more than 180 countries each year on one of the Saturday of March month from 8.30-9.30 pm Local time.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation & Green Vigil Foundation conducted Earth Hour 2025 at World Trade Center, Sitabuldi & Sitabuldi main Road, Nagpur on 22nd March ,2025 from 8.30-9.30 pm. Members of Green Vigil Foundation appealed shopkeepers and citizens to switch off their non-essential lights and electronic gadgets for an hour to show their commitment towards planet. Alongside, citizens, shopkeepers were also informed about deterioration of nature , global warming, climate change, it’s impact, consequences and urgent need to act to change the climate change. The Lights of the mall were also dimmed by 70 %.
Surbhi Jaiswal, Team Lead, Green Vigil stated, adopting to this Global event, Anil Sole, the then Mayor of Nagpur initiated Poornima Diwas Campaign, which Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Green Vigil Foundation, have been celebrating since 2014, aiming at educating citizen on energy conservation and combating climate change. This year’s Earth Hour Theme is “The Power of Nature”, which focusses to fight against climate change, she added Prominentl present during the occasion were Dayashankar Tiwari , Ex Mayor, Anil Sole, Ex. MLC, Manish Soni, PRO,NMC, Anup Khandelwal, Executive Director, WTC, Kishan Agarwal, Rajendra Rathod & Others Green Vigil Foundation Team comprising of Kaustav Chatterjee, Surbhi Jaiswal, Mehul Kosurkar, Sheetal Choudhary, Bishnudeo Yadav ,Shriya Jogey, Priya Yadav, Parth Jumde, Tushar Deshmukh , Pinaki Banik , Pratik Issampelliwar, Janhavi Paraskar, Mahi Kolhe along with Dilip Wanzari, Sunil Navghare, Rajdeep Bhalerao and staff of electrical department of NMC, World Trade Centre & NDS worked hard for the success of the campaign.
