Nagpur :-NADP celebrates its foundation day on 24 Oct 2024, it can look back with pride on its remarkable journey, from its humble origins as the OFSC to its current standing as a premier institution shaping the future of India’s defence production capabilities. The academy’s unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration has positioned it as a key driver of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ in the defence sector.Established in October 1978 as the Ordnance Factories Staff College (OFSC), the institution was conceived to provide specialized retraining for officers of the Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS). From its humble beginnings within the Ordnance Factory Training Institute complex in Ambajhari, Nagpur, the OFSC faced numerous challenges, including limited resources and infrastructure constraints. Leaders like Dr. S. Bhatacharya strategically positioned the institution at Ambajhari, leveraging existing facilities. The academy kickstarted its Structured Probationers’ Training Course (PTC) in 1990, shaping the careers of 1306 IOFS probationers across 60 batches until 2019-20. Driven by the unwavering dedication of its founding members, the institution persevered and gradually began to take shape.
OFSC played a critical role in shaping the careers of countless IOFS officers, equipping them with the technical and managerial expertise necessary to excel in their roles. The academy’s training programs evolved over time, incorporating innovative approaches like Core Competency Training, long-term certification programs, and mentorship initiatives. In 2005, NADP launched its Core Competency Training program, meticulously designed to nurture expertise at basic, advanced, and expert levels. Simultaneously, NADP spearheaded the introduction of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) within the Ordnance Factories, fostering a culture of continuous improvement through its vibrant annual TPM conferences. These initiatives culminated in NADP receiving the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock National Training Award’ in 2011, solidifying its reputation as a centre of excellence. Furthering its commitment to quality and transparency, NADP embraced the challenge of conducting Third Party Audits of Proactive Self Disclosure under the RTI Act 2005, entrusted by the Central Information Commission to audit 16 Public Authorities under the Department of Defence Production in 2020.
