37th National Games – Maharashtra on its way to Double Century

Panaji :- Maharashtra is on the brink of a double century in the medal tally on the 11th day on Sunday thanks to brilliant performances in track cycling, triathlon, tennis, archery and squash. With a total of 193 medals including 67 gold, 61 silver and 65 bronze medals, Maharashtra has undisputedly dominated the medal table. Senadal (52 gold, 22 silver, 28 bronze, total 102 medals) is second and Haryana Senadal (48 gold, 33 silver, 47 bronze, total 128 medals) is third.

Even on the last day of track cycling, Maharashtra’s Mayuri Lute bagged her fifth medal of the National Games by winning gold.

Similarly, Sanjana Joshi won the silver medal. Maharashtra won two medals in triathlon on the first day itself. International tennis players Arjun Kadhe and Rutuja Bhosle played to their standards and won the mixed doubles tennis gold medal for Maharashtra in the National Games on Sunday. Archers from Maharashtra bagged a total of three medals, one silver and two bronze in the compound category on Sunday. Partha Korde won two medals, an individual bronze and a team silver. A bronze was won by the women’s team.Urvashi Joshi and Rahul Baitha of Maharashtra bagged bronze medals in singles in the squash category.

In hockey, Priyanka Wankhede’s double scored the Maharashtra women’s team to a resounding 3-1 win over Karnataka in the final league match. But the Maharashtra team failed to reach the semi-finals. In shooting, Ruchira Vinerkar and Sakshi Suryavanshi failed to reach the women’s 10m air rifle final by four points.

Maharashtra’s Kho-Kho teams achieved their second consecutive impressive win in both men’s and women’s teams. In Kabaddi, Maharashtra men’s team confirmed their entry into the knockout round with their second consecutive win. However, the women’s team is likely to lose in the league due to Rajasthan’s draw. In Boxing, Rishikesh Gaud confirmed his entry into the semifinals.

Maharashtra’s Mayuri Lute bagged her fifth medal of the National Games with a golden success on the final day of track cycling as well. Maharashtra bagged a total of three medals – one gold, one silver and one bronze – on Sunday.

Mayuri finished first in the women’s Kerin category of track cycling held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. And the silver medal was also won by Maharashtra’s Sushik Agashe. The bronze medal went to Delhi’s Triyansha Paul.

Mayuri finished third in the men’s keirin category. Andaman and Nicobar’s David Beckham bagged the gold and Manipur’s Yanglem Singhane the silver medal.

In track cycling, Maharashtra bagged a total of eight medals namely three gold, three silver and two bronze. In this, Mayuri has won a total of five medals in this year’s National Games, namely three gold, one silver and one bronze.

*Farmer’s daughter achieves five-star success in truck cycling*

Mayuri Lute, a farmer’s daughter from Bela village in Bhandara district of Nagpur, has played a lion’s share in Maharashtra’s success by achieving five star success in truck cycling. This 22-year-old girl is being appreciated in the state. Mayuri expressed that I am very happy to have won five medals in the National Games.

Mayuri has bagged a total of five medals in this year’s National Games – three gold, one silver and one bronze. Mayuri took basic truck cycling lessons from Deepali Patil in Pune. Then started training and practice at Sports Authority of India in Delhi from 2015. After completing her graduation in Arts, she is currently working in South Western Railway at Hubli Bijapur.

“I am not satisfied with the success. Performance needs to be further improved. “My dream is to participate in the Olympic Games and win a medal,” said Mayuri.

We always say that if you have a never give up attitude, success is guaranteed. Proving the same, Maharashtra’s Mansi Mohite bagged a gold medal in triathlon. Similarly, Sanjana Joshi won the silver medal. Maharashtra won two medals in triathlon on the first day itself.

A jellyfish stung her leg while swimming in a triathlon. But still she successfully completed all the three races i.e. swimming, cycling and running to give Maharashtra a sensational title. Her teammate Sanjana Joshi became the silver medalist in this event.

The competition was organized at the beach in Panaji. It consisted of a 750 meter swim followed by a 20 kilometer cycle followed by a five kilometer run.

While swimming, Mansi’s legs were bitten by a jelly fish. But despite this pain, she completed the 750m swim in 13 minutes, 14 seconds, followed by the 20 km cycling in 36 minutes 44 seconds and then the 5 km run in 22 minutes 28 seconds to win the gold medal. Sanjana completed the 750m swim in 13 minutes, 09 seconds, followed by the 20 km cycling in 35 minutes 54 seconds and then the 5 km run in 26 minutes, 14 seconds, earning a silver.

Pragya Kumari of Gujarat was earlier announced the silver medal in this competition. But when her pedals went out during the cycle, instead of fitting them herself, her father fitted them for her. If any part of the bicycle breaks, it is the responsibility of the concerned athlete to refit it. In this regard, three-four teams including Maharashtra objected and their objection was accepted. Hence, Pragya was disqualified and Sanjana was awarded the silver medal.

After the competition, Mansi was admitted to a local hospital for treatment. Mansi is a sportsperson from Krida Prabodhini from Pune and has won many medals in many national level competitions till date.

*Arjun-Rutuja Mixed Doubles Gold Medal*

International tennis players Arjun Kadhe and Rutuja Bhosle played to their standards and won the mixed doubles tennis gold medal for Maharashtra in the National Games on Sunday.

In the mixed doubles final, the pair of Arjun-Rituja defeated Tamil Nadu’s Jeevan N and Saismita in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharth Rawat and Gujarat’s Vaidehi Chaudhary bagged gold in men’s singles.

Maharashtra has won a total of five medals in the national sports competition namely three gold, one silver and one bronze. This was Rituja’s third medal at the National Games this year as she won the team silver and women’s doubles gold earlier. Similarly, Arjun won the men’s doubles medal with Purav Raja on Saturday. So this was his second medal.

Archers from Maharashtra bagged a total of three medals, one silver and two bronze in the compound category on Sunday. Partha Korde won two medals, an individual bronze and a team silver. A bronze was won by the women’s team.In the team men’s event, the Maharashtra team consisting of Parth, Manav Jadhav, Prathamesh Javakar and Harsh Borate finished second with 224 points. Delhi bagged gold with 228 points and Rajasthan bagged bronze with 231 points.

Parth scored 143 points and finished third in the individual event. Delhi’s Hrithik Chahal (149 points) bagged the gold and Rajasthan’s Rajat Chauhan (145 points) bagged the bronze.

In the women’s team category, Maharashtra secured the third position by scoring 226 points. The Maharashtra team consisted of Purvsha Shende, Tejal Salve, Mamangavkar, Pruthika Simon. Rajasthan bagged gold with 228 points and Punjab bagged bronze with 226 points.

Squash to Urvashi Joshi and Rahul Baitha of Maharashtra Bronze medals were won in singles. In the women’s singles semi-final, Urvashi lost to Goa’s Akanksha Salunkhe 7-11, 9-11, 1-11. In the men’s singles semi-final, Rahul lost to Tamil Nadu’s Abhay Singh 6-11, 1-11, 8-11.

On the strength of Priyanka Wankhede’s double goal, the Maharashtra women’s hockey team secured a resounding 3-1 win over Karnataka in the final series of the National Sports Center. In the 53rd minute, Priyanka scored through a penalty corner to increase Maharashtra’s lead to 2-1.Then two minutes later, Lalrindiki scored a field goal (55th minute) to add the third goal to Maharashtra’s account. Bhavna Khade of Maharashtra was shown a yellow card in this match.

From Group B, Jharkhand (10 points) and Punjab (7 points) qualified for the semi-finals. Maharashtra also earned 7 points. But Punjab advanced on goal difference.

Maharashtra’s two shooters Ruchira vinerkar and Sakshi Suryavanshi failed to reach the women’s 10m air rifle final by four points.
