Petrol, diesel now cheaper in Mumbai – Know more on which areas of Maharashtra see fuel price cut

Navi Mumbai :-The Maharashtra government on Friday announced a reduction in the taxes on diesel and petrol prices in the municipal areas of Brihanmumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

While presenting Budget 2024 for the state, Deputy Chief Minister and state Finance Minister Ajit Pawar announced that the government will slash the value-added tax (VAT) on fuel in these areas which will make petrol cheaper by 65 paise per litre and diesel by Rs 2.60 per litre.

The decision will be applicable only in the Mumbai metropolitan region, he said.

The value-added tax (VAT) on petrol has been reduced to 25 per cent plus Rs 5.12 additional tax from 26 per cent VAT plus Rs 5.12 additional tax, he said.

He said that the decision will cost the state exchequer Rs 200 crore.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters later, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “The VAT cut has been proposed in the budget. Once the budget is passed by the state legislative assembly and the council, the decision will come into effect from Jul 1.”
