Nagpur :- This recent announcement of central government increasing Thee Minimum Support Price (MSP) of 14 kharif crops, has disappointed debt trapped cotton soyabean growing farmers who are committing suicide @ rate of 8 farmers per day in dryland region of Maharashtra as CACP i.e. Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) recommendations of Dr. Swaminathan Commission adopted for the calculation as cost of cultivation plus fifty percent of the profit, but the announcement of the MSP hike is nothing but peanut and will fuel the on going agrarian crisis, veteran farm activist and former head of Maharashtra farmer commission Kishore Tiwari said today in press release .Kishore Tiwari, an farm activist who has been fighting for rights since 1990 for the cotton producing dry land farmers of Vidarbha, has expressed the fear that suicides will increase on a huge scale.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, cotton soybean farmers rejected the BJP outright in Vidarbha Marathwada North Maharashtra, while the farmers in financial difficulties in the are committing a record number of suicides as in the October 2024 coming assembly elections, in order to address the unrest it was expected that Modi government in the rural areas, the Swaminathan Commission’s formula of 50% profit plus cultivation cost in true sense ,Tiwari added. 
This year, the new guaranteed price of cotton has been increased by Rs 7121 and 7521 by Rs 501, while the guaranteed price of soyabean has been increased to just Rs 292, which much more disappointing for the drought-stricken and debt-ridden farmers. This year, an insignificant increase of 501 rupees for cotton and an increase of only 292 rupees in the guaranteed price of soybeans is hoax as the cost of cultivation increased double in the last 2 years, the decline in production, impact of global climate change, hostile market and import policy , completely ignored by the Agricultural Costs and Prices Commission without consulting the Maharashtra farmers. Kishore Tiwari urged PM Modi in order to reduce the dissatisfaction among the farmers who have the ability to defeat in the coming assembly seats and to prevent the current record farmers suicides, to scarp announced cotton soyabean MSP and revised the same as per cost plus 50% profit as par Dr. Swaminathan Commission formula.
