Devendra Fadnavis Assures Infrastructure Improvements for Water-Logged Nagpur Industrial Estates

Nagpur :-Delegation of industries affected by water logging problem in Maa Umia Industrial Easte, Kapsi, Kapsi Khurd, Baradari, Lihgaon and Mahalgaon area situated on Bhandara Road, led by Dr. Dipen Agrawal, President of the Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT) called upon Dy. Chief Minister and Guardian Minister for Nagpur district, Devendra Fadnavis to upraise him with the misers of business community.

Dr Dipen Agrawal, welcoming DCM, said that due to water logging the industrial units in these areas are suffering losses and loss is not limited to loss of business to entrepreneurs but it has also affected the livelihood of thousands of families of daily wage workers dependent of these industrial units. Dr Agrawal informed that recently, on 20th July, 2024 these areas witnessed heavy rains and about 125-150 units were badly affected due to water logging. Working of these units was disrupted for days resulting in huge monetary and business losses ranging from Rs.2.00 crore to Rs.15.00 crore per unit. The industrialist, are not demanding compensation of losses but they want the administration to ensure that there will be more water logging in future, he added.

Dr Agrawal stressed that one is not required to be an expert in town planning to pin down the reason for such water logging. The affected area is part of Nagpur Rural and Nagpur Metro Region Development Authority (NMRDA) the planning authority of the area has turned blind eye towards the problems faced by the employment generators of the region. He further submitted that a little research and inquiry will reveal that the designated planning authority has not developed any drainage system in these areas. Till recent past the moderate to heavy rain water was drained through natural nalla/canal to water bodies in the vicinity. It is pertinent to mention here that the large water body in Baradari has been converted into private property and the owner has constructed boundary wall around the water body. The private owner has also elevated both, the entry point to water body and the exit point to Nag-river, resulting in water logging and water retention in the area for extended period.

Dr Dipen Agrawal further upraising DCM, said that the Final Development Plan (2012-2032) for Nagpur Metro Region was sanctioned and notified in the year 2018 and the irony is that NMRDA expects the industries established and in operation since last 4 to 5 decades to comply with the DCR (2012-2030). Dr Agrawal requested that the units established prior to the date on which the DCR for Nagpur Metropolitan Region was notified should be saved from the provisions of the said DCR. In alternate an amnesty scheme to regularise the development with minimum regularisation fee may be announced as these industries are on self-acquired land.

The delegation requested DCM, Devendar Fadnavis for his urgent intervention in the matter and to direct the authorities below to take necessary steps to ensure infrastructure development such as sewerage, water exit, roads, fire station, hospital etc in the area.

DCM, Devendra Fadnavis after giving a patient hearing, shared the pain of rain affected industries. He was immediately directed the authorities to ensure that water logging problem is resolved permanently. He also directed the concerned authority to discuss and propose appropriate amnesty scheme to regularise the units established prior to notification of DCR (2012-30).

Dilip bhai Thakral expressing gratitude towards DCM for patient hearing said that the business community of the affected region is confident that his intervention will definitely bring justice for the employment generators established on Bhandara Road, Nagpur Rural.

Prominently present in the delegation were Sarvshri Dilip bhai Thakral, Niraj Khakar, Sanjay Kamdar, Farukh Akbani, Mangla ben Patel, Ansari, Ashok Patel, Chandu bhai Patel, Dinesh Patel, Natwar Patel, Navin Patel, Hashmukh Patel, Daya bhai Patel, Manish Patel, Nitin Patel, Kanti Patel, Jasubhai Patel, Tushar Patel and Mota bhai Patel informs a press release issued by CAMIT.
