Mahavitaran receives National Award for Excellence in Energy Transition

Mumbai :- Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Mahavitaran) was honored with a National Award at the 13th Green Energy Summit organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi on Tuesday for its special work in the energy transition plan being implemented in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Mahavitaran received the award in the ‘State Level Excellence Award in Energy Transition’ category. The state’s energy transition plan has been prepared under the guidance of Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Abha Shukla. Mahavitaran is implementing the plan under the leadership of Lokesh Chandra, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Mahavitaran.

Mahavitaran’s Executive Director (Distribution) Dattatray Padalkar, Chief Engineer Sandeep Patil, Superintendent Engineer Neelkamal Chaudhary and Superintendent Engineer Sanjay Waghmare accepted the award. The chief guest of the award ceremony was Anil Kumar Jain, Chairman of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board. Former Union Energy Secretary Anil Razdan, who headed the jury, was also present.

Keeping in mind the increasing energy requirement in the future to make Maharashtra a $1 trillion economy, the state’s energy capacity will be increased by 45,000 MW in five years and it will be 81,000 MW. Under the Energy Transition plan, Mahavitaran has emphasized on the use of renewable energy. The power purchase agreements signed for future use mainly include green energy agreements. Due to this, the state’s green energy consumption will increase from the current 13 percent to 52 percent by 2030. This will save Rs 66,000 crore in power purchase costs along with protecting the environment. For this reason, Mahavitaran has sought permission to reduce electricity tariff in phases in the next five years in its petition filed before the Maharashtra State Electricity Commission. Mahavitaran has also proposed to remove the burden of cross subsidy on industries.

Under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0), solar power generation projects are being set up at various places in the state and agricultural feeders will be run on solar energy. This will provide electricity to farmers during the day. The implementation of this scheme is going on at a fast pace in the state. In the coming year, through this scheme, all agricultural pumps in the state will be run on solar energy, i.e. green energy. Under this scheme, 16,000 MW solar power generation capacity is being developed and this scheme has an important role in energy transition.
