Mumbai :-Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan held a meeting of six divisional commissioners of the State and senior government officials to review the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Thu (27 Feb.)
Stating that tribal welfare should be given topmost priority, the Governor asked the Divisional Commissioners to create one Model Tribal Village in districts having PESA areas. He called for the time bound implementation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006 in the State.
Issues such as improving the enrollment of tribals in higher education through School Connect programme involving tribal residential schools and Eklavya Model Schools, upgrading the healthcare infrastructure in tribal areas, addressing Genetic Disorder issues in tribal areas such as Sickle Cell, Thalassemia, etc were discussed.
A presentation on the Status of Implementation of Forest Rights Act was made by the Commissioner of Tribal Research and Training Institute Dr Rajendra Bharud. Divisional Commissioners presented a brief account of the PESA blocks in their division.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Tribal Development Department Dr. Vijay Waghmare, Secretary to the Governor Dr. Prashant Naranware, Joint Secretary Machhindra Shelke, Divisional Commissioners Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi (Konkan), Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar (Pune), Dr. Praveen Gedam (Nashik), Dilip Gawde (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Shweta Singhal (Amravati) and Dr. Madhavi Khode Chaware (Nagpur) and Deputy Secretary to the Governor S Ramamoorthy.
