Cleaning and promotion of public wells

– Dr. Pravin Dabli’s efforts got success

Nagpur :- Nagpur Municipal Corporation has decided to promote public and historical wells located in the city. Under which all the wells will be cleaned and RO plant will be installed on them. Due to which the problem of drinking water will be reduced to a great extent.

In this context, the efforts made by former member of Zero Mile Foundation and Jal Mitra Dr. Pravin Dabli regarding cleaning and promotion of public wells have been successful. He has also appealed to the Municipal Administration to clean the largest well in Nagpur. There are 854 public wells in Nagpur city. The water in which was not potable.

Dr. Pravin Dabli had launched a campaign for cleaning public wells in 2019. Taking cognizance of which the then Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari had decided to clean the wells. Under which Rs 1 crore 52 lakh was sanctioned this year approving the cleaning of 446 public wells. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary said that the cleaning work has start soon.

It is known that 212 wells were cleaned in 2019, 54 wells in 2020, 79 wells in 2021, 85 wells in 2022 and 183 wells in 2023.

Dr. Pravin Dabli has expressed his gratitude to the Municipal Corporation administration. He has also appealed to the citizens of the area to be vigilant about the cleanliness of the wells. Similarly, the corporators and citizens have also requested to protect the well water by using it.

Nagpur’s biggest well should also be cleaned

Many British-era establishments were present in the Asinagar zone. Due to which there are many historical wells in this area too. The biggest well of 70 x 70 feet diameter is present in Moti Bagh Railway Colony. It has the capacity to supply water to the entire area. Many huge Bhosale-era wells are present in the city. They are built at such places where water is present in abundant quantity. Former member of Zero Mile Foundation and Jal Mitra Dr. Pravin Dabli has demanded that the Municipal Administration and Pollution Control Board should be made aware of the condition of the wells and they should be revived and made potable.

Most historical wells in Gandhibagh zone

Dr. Dabli said that according to the Municipal Corporation, Zone No. 6 Gandhibagh of the city has the most number of 43 historical wells. Only 9 have been done in all the other zones. In which there are 2 in Dharampeth, 2 in Dhantoli, 1 in Nehrunagar, 1 in Satranjipura, 1 in Lakadganj, 2 in Aasinagar, Laxminagar, Hanumannagar and Mangalwari zones do not have a single historical well. There are many wells about which the Municipal Corporation does not have information.

How many wells in which zone

Dr. Praveen Dabli told that there are a total of 10 zones in the city. In which every zone has public wells. There are 83 public wells in Laxminagar zone, 91 in Dharampeth zone, 54 in Hanumannagar zone, 70 in Dhatoli zone, 85 in Nehrunagar zone, 154 in Gandhibagh zone, 94 in Satranjipura zone, 74 in Lakadganj zone, 104 in Aasinagar zone and 45 in Mangalwari zone. Information has been received that there are 854 public wells in Nagpur city including all the 10 zones. Information about private wells located in houses is not available in this. The water of none of the above wells is potable.
