Nagpur – In an attention-grabbing election of Western India Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, CA. Abhijit Kelkar from Nagpur re-elected by securing highest votes and crossing the required quota.
The Western India Regional Council (WIRC of ICAI) with head office at Mumbai is the largest Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India amongst the Five Regional Councils, catering to the membership of more than 1,16,000 Chartered Accountants and about 2,25,000 CA students, spread across the network of 35 branches in the three States — the Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and the Union Territories of Daman, Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
Elections for WIRC of ICAI is being held triennially, this year 45 candidates contested for the coveted council post, out of which 21 were elected as council members. In closely fought elections, 48% of members voted across the WIRC.
CA. Abhijit Kelkar made a historic win by topping the list and first to secure qualifying quota from Maharashtra. The tenure of the council is for three years.
He also informed that WIRC of ICAI has always been in the forefront in organizing conferences, seminars, workshop and webinars which are important tools for the propagation of relevant information and dissemination of knowledge. WIRC of ICAI also make representations on the practice of various laws through Central Committees or directly to the respective offices of State Governments of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and the Union Territories. It also organises various programmes for the benefit of the public at large. These are ideal platforms for the Chartered Accountants to participate and gain the benefits from the doyens of the profession in Industry, Technology, Financial Services and matters related to Professional Development and contemporary relevance, which is considered the need of the hour.
