Nagpur :- This Sunday evening was different than usual at Futala Lakefront. The hangout spot bustling with Nagpurkars after the drizzles witnessed a crowd of hundreds pledging to fight against human trafficking after an intriguing street play performed by youngsters.
Young India Unchained (YIU), a voluntary cohort of ten thousand students from fifty colleges across the city associated with the city police as community policing partners, started its week-long commemoration of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with a street play. The witty play showed how young girls fall prey to human trafficking and sex trade out of substance abuse, poverty and, unawareness.
World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed globally on 30th July. Given the fact that one in three victims of human trafficking globally is a child, the United Nations has set the theme for this year, “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking”. Conforming the theme, YIU will reach out to different schools across the city, accompanied by Police Didis and Police Kakas, to communicate with school kids on holistic alertness.
“Child trafficking happens for the sex trade, forced labour, and exploitation. Police have a Social Security Branch, an Anti-human Trafficking Cell, and Bharosa Cell to fight against it. We seek active public participation for crime prevention and that is why such initiatives are important.”, said PI Seema Surve, In-charge Bharosa Cell, Nagpur City Police while appreciating the YIU initiative.
