– Silver medal to Sanjana Joshi of Maharashtra*
Panaji :- We always say that if you have a never give up attitude, success is guaranteed. Proving the same, Maharashtra’s Mansi Mohite bagged a gold medal in triathlon. Similarly, Sanjana Joshi won the silver medal. Maharashtra won two medals in triathlon on the first day itself.
A jellyfish stung her leg while swimming in a triathlon. But still she successfully completed all the three races i.e. swimming, cycling and running to give Maharashtra a sensational title. Her teammate Sanjana Joshi became the silver medalist in this event.
The competition was organized at the beach in Panaji. It consisted of a 750 meter swim followed by a 20 kilometer cycle followed by a five kilometer run.
While swimming, Mansi’s legs were bitten by a jelly fish. But despite this pain, she completed the 750m swim in 13 minutes, 14 seconds, followed by the 20 km cycling in 36 minutes 44 seconds and then the 5 km run in 22 minutes 28 seconds to win the gold medal. Sanjana completed the 750m swim in 13 minutes, 09 seconds, followed by the 20 km cycling in 35 minutes 54 seconds and then the 5 km run in 26 minutes, 14 seconds, earning a silver.
Pragya Kumari of Gujarat was earlier announced the silver medal in this competition. But when her pedals went out during the cycle, instead of fitting them herself, her father fitted them for her. If any part of the bicycle breaks, it is the responsibility of the concerned athlete to refit it. In this regard, three-four teams including Maharashtra objected and their objection was accepted. Hence, Pragya was disqualified and Sanjana was awarded the silver medal.
After the competition, Mansi was admitted to a local hospital for treatment. Mansi is a sportsperson from Krida Prabodhini from Pune and has won many medals in many national level competitions till date.
