Nagpur :-Vidarbha is home to many species of wildlife and under the current scenario of wild human conflict, a holistic approach to meet the ends is necessary. Taking a step forward, Pench Tiger Conservation Foundation (PTCF) under Department of Forest, Maharashtra State and Wildlife Research and Training Centre (WRTC), established through MoU between Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University and FDCM Ltd., Nagpur signed a MoU to strengthen joint efforts in Wildlife Health and Management.
Wildlife Research & Training Centre, Gorewada is engaged in the rescue, rehabilitation, research and extension activities pertaining to wildlife. The centre is also extending health care facilities to city-based Wildlife Rescue Centre and Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park, Nagpur. Under the MoU, PTCF will facilitate the staff of WRTC by providing biological samples from wild animals, help in approaching protected areas for extending Health Cover, Conducting Research, Training, Extension Activities etc. and WRTC will essentially provide its technical expertise and support to Pench and Bor Tiger reserve in areas of Wildlife Health and Management such as carrying out Research, Forensics, Assisted Reproductive Technologies, Extension Education etc. The efforts will certainly benefit Veterinarians, Scientists and other key stakeholders involved in Wildlife Conservation from the inputs generated by coordinated approach.
Dr. Shirish Upadhye, Director, WRTC and A. Shreelakshmi, Executive Director, PTCF signed the MoU in presence of Dr. V.M. Dhoot, P.B. Panchbhai, G.K. Washistha and Dr. P. E. Taksande. Dr. S.M. Kolangath and Dr. M.D. Pawshe exterted to facilitate the MoU.
