Governor visits Mani Bhavan on Mahatma Gandhi’s 77th Anniversary of Martyrdom

Mumbai :- Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan visited ‘Mani Bhavan’ the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi in South Mumbai on the occasion of the 77th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of the Mahatma on Thur (30 Jan).

The Governor offered floral tributes to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi and participated in a prayer meeting organised on the occasion.

The Governor listened to Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan ‘Raghupati Raghav Rajaram’ sung by the school children assembled on the occasion. The Governor later visited the Museum and saw the rooms in which Mahatma lived.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor appealed to all to rise above the narrow distinctions of caste, creed and religion. He asked the children to follow the ideals of Satya, Ahimsa and austerity practised by Mahatma Gandhi.

The trustees of Mani Bhavan apprised the Governor of the visit of Martin Luther King Jr in the year 1959 and that of US President Barack Obama to Mani Bhavan in the year 2010.

Trustees and office bearers of Mani Bhavan including Usha Thakkar, Sandhya Mehta, Yogesh Kamdar, Falguni Mehta, Raksha Mehta, Meghshyam Ajgaonkar and Sajeev Rajan were present.

Mani Bhavan served as Gandhiji’s residence in Mumbai during 1917 and 1934. According to the history of Mani Bhavan, Gandhiji launched the Satyagraha in 1919 and the Civil Disobedience in 1932 from the Mani Bhavan.
