-Freshwater Fisheries Workshop conducted at Agro Vision

Nagpur 26 Dec 2021 : Efforts are being made to double the income of farmers in the country. The development of fisheries is an important step in that direction. Arunachal Pradesh’s Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries Development, TagiTaki, said that fisheries is a high potential  source of prosperity for farmers.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of a workshop on Freshwater Fisheries in Vidarbha at the Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Hall on Sunday, on the  third day of Agrovision. Rajasthan Agriculture Minister LalchandKataria, Rajasthan Livestock Minister Muralilal Mina, MLA KrishnaramBishnoi, National Fisheries Development Board’s SuvarnaChandrapagari, MAFSU’s Vice Chancellor Dr.Dr. Ashish Paturkar, Coordinator, AgrovisionDr. Girish Gandhi, Chairman of the Advisory Committee. C. D. Mayee, Organizing Secretary Ravi Boratkar were prominently present.

TagiTaki said that he  hopes to increase fish production without endangering nature. He said that if nature is neglected, endangered fish species are in danger of extinction. He advised the farmers not only to rely on conventional farming but also to focus on animal husbandry and fisheries.

LalchandKataria expressed happiness over the fact that even though a large part of Rajasthan is facing water crisis, local farmers are taking interest in livestock and fisheries along with agriculture.  He hoped that with the help of the latest technology available in the world, the farmers would be able to prosper with profitable alternative like fisheries.

SuvarnaChandrapagari said that with the availability of many rivers, streams, lakes and reservoirs in Vidarbha, there is a huge scope for the development of fisheries. While raising fish, both production and productivity have to be increased. He informed that fisheries are being promoted through various schemes at the government level.

Efforts are being made to achieve Nilkranti – Blue Revolution, through this ambitious initiative of Prime Minister’s Fisheries Scheme. Farmers also need to come forward and take advantage of it. It is possible to increase the income from fish farming through biofloc technology, water recycling fisheries, floating cage fish farming etc said – Samir Parvez, Assistant Commissioner, Fisheries Department, Gondia.

Farmers are expected to utilize the available resources. However, there are many misconceptions about fish farming. Large quantities of fish can be harvested from actual farms. Farmers should prosper by raising fish in a scientific manner said – SatyajitBelsare, Assistant Professor, College of Fisheries .
