Keep consistency and transparency in procuring medical equipment and medicines for health Institutes
Take care that hospitals do not face shortage of medicine – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
Mumbai :- “The Maharashtra Medical Equipment Purchasing Authority has been established with the objective of keeping consistency and transparency in procurement of medicine and medical equipment for government and semi government health Institute of the state. As such, the procurement process should be transparent and care should be taken that the hospitals do not face shortage of medicines,” directed chief minister Eknath Shinde, here today.The first meeting of Maharashtra Medical Equipment Purchasing Authority was held at the Sahyadri guest house under the chairmanship of the chief minister. Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan, Health Minister Dr Tanaji Sawant, chief secretary Manoj Saunik, additional chief secretary of Finance Department Nitin Kareer, additional chief secretary of health department Milind Mhaiskar and other dignitaries were also present during the meeting.
Speaking further, the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that decision to established the authority was taken with the objective of purchasing medicine and medical equipments required for public health and medical education department. Approval for the necessary eight senior posts was given in today’s meeting. The officer from Indian Administrative Services will be working as the chief executive officer (CEO) of this authority. It was resolved in the meeting that the Commissioner of health will be the caretaker of this authority. The chief minister said that this authority is a revolutionary step taken by the state government and the objective behind its establishment is good. He said that through this medium, the medical equipments and medicines should be made available to the hospitals and health Institutions within the stipulated time and the functioning of authority should be transparent. The Chief Minister expected that the functioning of the authority should start at the earliest and it should maintain credibility, adding that if the working procedure of the authority is transparent, the private hospitals will also procure medicine and medical equipment through this authority.
The program plan of the authority, decision for procurement of 27 hundred different medicine and medical equipment and appointments based on contractual basis were discussed in the meeting. The secretary of health department Naveen Sona, secretary of medical education department Ashwini Joshi, health commissioner Dhiraj Kumar were present on the occasion.
