Nagpur :- In a significant step towards promoting health and early detection, a Breast Cancer Awareness Program was organized at the Divisional Railway Hospital, Nagpur, on November 7, 2024. The event was held under the guidance of Sr. Divisional Medical Officer Dr. Shubhangee Sakhare (Gynaecologist/NGP), Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. G. Manjunath, and Divisional Railway Manager Manish Agarwal.
October is recognized globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness and promoting early detection and support for breast cancer patients. In alignment with this year’s theme, “No-one should face breast cancer alone,” the event emphasized the importance of comprehensive patient-centered care, encompassing medical, psychological, and social support, along with addressing disparities in access to breast cancer treatment.
Dr. Madhuri Gawande, a Gynecologic Oncologist from RST Hospital, Nagpur, led an insightful session, educating attendees on breast cancer causes, symptoms, and preventive measures. She highlighted the critical role of self-examination in early detection and presented ways to perform self-assessment. An interactive questionnaire session allowed participants to address their queries and concerns.
Following the presentation, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. G. Manjunath addressed the gathering, stressing the significance of early detection and regular health screenings. Dr. Shubhangee Sakhare, Sr. DMO (Gynaecologist/NGP), concluded the event with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective efforts behind this health initiative.
A breast screening was also conducted during the program, benefitting 40 railway employees and their families, helping promote proactive health measures within the railway community.
The program was seamlessly coordinated by Manjusha Matey, DEE/NGP, with logistical support provided by Matey and Sanjay Sawle, Jr. FW/NGP.
This awareness program reflects Central Railway’s commitment to the health and well-being of its employees, ensuring they have access to critical information and screenings to safeguard their health.
