Nagpur :-Citizens are aware that most Local Body and Public Service offices have unpaid dues/Bills towards service providers like MSEB, BSNL and many Private Service providers.
Since the funds towards the payment of such dues are sometimes delayed due to delay from the Approving and Issuing authority. These bills are for the payment of electricity, maintenance, phones and other resources that are used by the local Body offices.
However, if the resources are being exploited by the staff for their personal use and are not related to the department they serve then this can easily be termed as misuse of Government resources meant for the service of the public and not for staff’s personal and private use.
One Such incident was noted recently where a privately owned electric powered car was being charged at Koradi Police Station.
Investigations revealed that the Car that was being charged at the police station was not a Government vehicle and neither was it a private vehicle being used for Government or police department. The vehicle was a privately-owned Police Staff who was stationed at Koradi Police station. When attempts were made to further establish the identity of the Police staffer none of the staff was willing to disclose the name or the identity to whom the car belonged to.
However, a reliable source did confirm that the car was charged at Koradi Police station regularly.
The question that arise are
1: Why is a private car being charged at a state funded Local body/ Police station?
2: Why are the superiors at the police station not objecting to the misuse of Government resources?
3: Is Charging private vehicles (owned by police staff) at a government sponsored office/police station part of some perks and incentives or special benefits or maybe fringe benefits?
4: Are the Top Brass of the Police Department aware of these malpractices and will any departmental corrective measures be initiated against the erring Police Staff? Or will the matter be simply hushed up?
It’s quite likely that many such instances might be taking place elsewhere in Nagpur at various other Police Stations and Government Offices. Will the Police Department and other local Body offices take cognizance of such malpractices and issue Notice to all such offices strictly instructing staff to not to misuse Government funded resources for personal and private use and consumption?
