Mumbai – The World Intellectual Property Day was commemorated in presence of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on Tuesday (26 April)
The World IP Day commemoration was organised at the instance of Intellectual Property and Geographical Indication (GI) activisist Prof Ganesh Hingmire.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Koshyari called for creating awareness about GI registration and patenting among farmers. He said India must strive to enrich its farmers by securing GI registration and patenting of their agricultural produce.
Observing that European Union countries and China register lakhs of their products annually, he said India must work with missionary spirit to get more products GI and patent registered. In this connection he applauded Prof Ganesh Hingmire for resolving to register 75 products under GI and patents in the ongoing year being celebrated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Agricultural farmers and entrepreneurs presented the certificates of GI registration for Kesar Mangoes, Dahanu Chikoo and Badlapur Jamun to the Governor. The MPKV University Rahuri also presented the patent certificate of the Nankhatai received by it.
