Nagpur :-In a significant operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Nagpur successfully prevented an attempted theft of railway signal cables and apprehended two individuals involved in the crime. The suspects were caught red-handed while tampering with and cutting railway signal cables near Bharatwada and Godhani.
On December 10, 2024, acting on credible information about suspicious activity near railway tracks at kilometer marker 1034/34-36, RPF personnel swiftly intervened. The suspects were discovered in the act of cutting a 12-core signal cable at Point No. 101, aiming to steal the cables.
The incident caused disruption to rail traffic, delaying six trains due to damage to the signal system. A case has been registered under Crime No. 13/2024, invoking sections 3(a) of the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1966, and sections 174(c) and 147 of the Railway Act. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the individuals were part of a larger network.
To prevent future incidents, the RPF has increased patrols in the area and deployed plainclothes personnel for enhanced surveillance. Awareness campaigns have been conducted in nearby villages to educate residents about the dangers and consequences of such crimes.
