Nagpur – Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) is a simulation of the working of the United Nations, in which delegates (in our case Interactors from all over India and students in the age group 13 – 18 years from all over the world) deliberate and discuss on pre decided topics. The RID 3030 and host club Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision (RCNV) organized this MUNA to help the children to grow into adults well informed in world affairs.
14th November dawned on us bright and pleasant. At 830 am on this Sunday morning the District 3030 officials, RCNV members. PDGs, DGs from all across the world and attendees congregated on the ZOOM platform for the opening ceremony. The first few minutes we had a mini fellowship virtually. The meeting was called to order at sharp 9 :00. RCNV President RTN. Vikram Naidu welcomed all present. District Chair MUNA Hetal Sampat and DG Ramesh Meher gave their opening remarks to the gathering. The Chief Guest, PDG Ulhas Kolhatkar from Mumbai gave us a few pearls of wisdom. The Guest of Honour, IPDG Ajit Weerasinghe form Sri Lanka spoke to the delegates and the gathering. Then the Professional Moderators were introduced. MUNA was declared open by Director Youth RCNV Amit Chandak. The Master of Ceremonies was Director General Priyanka Gandhi. The Opening ceremony was concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem.
Then the delegates joined their different Zoom IDs to the various to commence their Committee Sessions. There were 520 delegates, 8 participating countries, 4 languages being used, 14 Professional Moderators and 12 Student moderators who were divided into their 13 Committees. The committees of the UN in this MUNA were UNESCO, UNESCAP, WHO, EC, SC, UNEP, UNICEF, UNHRC, UNDP etc. There was a Committee comprising entirely of Deaf and Mute children and a special format had been developed for these super talented children. This year, we also tried to bring visually impaired children into our fold. We gave them the topic ‘Impact of Covid on the Environment’ and asked them to send a 2 minute video explaining the same. 7 children from the country sent their videos.
13 Committee Sessions were held during the day in which the delegates deliberated on pre decided topics in order to arrive at a solution to solve these global issues. 3 weeks prior to the event whatsapp groups had been created committee wise for the delegates to lobby for their positions. All this effort culminated at a resolution being passed to solve these issues.
After the end of the Committee sessions, we also organized a PPT competition highlighting the Sustainable Development Goal s of the UN. We received 41 entries, out of which 7 were shortlisted and shown on the final day.
The closing ceremony was held at the day end with opening remarks by District Governor Nominee Rtn. Asha Venugopal, the Master of ceremonies was District MUNA Chair Hetal Sampat. The resolutions passed by the committees were read out. The prizes were announced by RCNV’s President Vikram Naidu, DG Ramesh Meher, DGN Ashaji, PDG Satish Sule and PDG Vishwas Sahasrabhojanee. E-Certificates will be given to each and every participant and winner’s certificates in electronic format will be given to the award winners. Secretary General Sapna Vastani ended the program with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks.
