Nagpur Division, Central Railway Strengthens Passenger Food Safety Measures for Summer

Nagpur :- With the onset of the summer season and the increased movement of passengers due to vacations, Nagpur Division of Central Railway has implemented several proactive measures to ensure food and drinking water safety. The Division, which caters to lakhs of passengers daily, has intensified monitoring and compliance checks to uphold the highest standards of food safety.

As part of its commitment to passenger well-being, Nagpur Division has collected over 25 food samples and 15 water samples from various railway catering sources for quality checks, ensuring compliance with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations. Notably, seven railway stations under the Division have been awarded ‘Eat Right Station’ certification by FSSAI, further reinforcing its dedication to food safety.

To prevent overcharging and ensure the availability of safe drinking water, all catering stall operators have been directed to display the MRP of ₹15 for a 1-litre packaged drinking water bottle, thereby educating passengers about fair pricing. Additionally, to provide affordable food options, economy meal vending facilities are available for general coach passengers at Nagpur Railway Station.

Recognizing the need for free drinking water services, the Division has actively collaborated with NGOs and civil society organizations to provide potable water to passengers traveling in general coaches of passing trains. This initiative has been successfully implemented at Pandhurna, Wani, Dhamangaon, and Amla railway stations, with NGOs coming forward to serve passengers during peak summer conditions.

To further strengthen food safety measures, multiple meetings have been conducted with catering service licensees at major stations. These interactions have focused on sensitizing vendors about maintaining hygiene standards and ensuring food safety compliance, particularly during the extreme summer heat.

Nagpur Division remains committed to enhancing passenger services and ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all. Passengers are encouraged to report any concerns related to food safety to railway authorities to help maintain high standards of service.
