Nagpur – In an unfortunate event at Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, the nation lost its first
ever Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM,
SM, VSM, ADC and 11 other Defence official while they were on a visit to Defence
Services Staff College in Nilgiris when an IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter met with an
accident.
Commandant and all ranks of GUARDS Regimental Centre at Kamptee laid
wreath and paid respect to India’s first CDS and previous Honorary Colonel of the
Brigade of the Guards and other brave souls of motherland. One wreath was also
laid by Lance Naik Ram Kumar Tamang of 5 th Battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles, the
parent unit of Gen Rawat.
Born on 16 Mar 1958, General Bipin Rawat was commissioned in December
1978 in 11 Gorkha Rifles. In his illustrious professional record, he had held many
critical appointments across various geographical terrains. He was also 26 th Chief of
Army Staff and took over as India’s first CDS in Jan 2020 and had pivotal role in
synergizing tri-services efforts in National Security.
