NCI, Nagpur signs MoU with VNIT, Nagpur

Nagpur :- National Cancer Institute, Nagpur, a 470-bedded quaternary Oncology care centre in Nagpur, added another feather in its cap as it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Vishveshvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday, 21st June, 2023 by Dr. Anand Pathak, Medical Director, National Cancer Institute, Nagpur and Dr. Pramod M. Padole, Director, VNIT, Nagpur in the august presence of Shailesh Joglekar, General Secretary& Chief Executive Officer, National Cancer Institute, Nagpur. Those present on the occasion were Dr. Prakash Kakani, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sachin Jambhorkar, Co-ordinator – Academics, Col. (Dr) Ravi Ramani, General Manager (Clinical Operations) from NCI and Prof. R.S. Yerpude, Dean, Faculty welfare; Prof. Madhuri Chaudhary, Dean, R&C; Prof. P. S. Deshpande, HoD, Computer Science & Engineering; Dr. R. B. Keskar, Asso. Proff. CSE & Dr. M. P. Kurhekar, Asso. Proff. CSE from VNIT.

The signing of MoU marks the beginning of a new relationship between technocrats and medical experts in Cancer care. The purpose of the agreement is to build a framework for establishing a co-operative and productive relationship to evolve a better system for application of engineering aspects in the field of cancer care.

Dr. Anand Pathak, MD, NCI discussed about the various opportunities in the field of biomedical engineering , Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and its application in development of new patient-friendly equipments and technologies as far as cancer rehabilitation, surgical oncology, radiation oncology & nuclear medicine fields are concerned. He also underlined the need for use of technology in the development of new molecules in chemotherapy. He also spoke about the scope and importance of application of robotics in cancer care. This collaboration will open up new frontiers for faculty, students and researchers with expertise in diverse areas to work together towards the unified goal of creating products & techniques that will ease the work of cancer care practitioners and technicians.

Shailesh Joglekar, General Secretary & CEO, NCI expressed his satisfaction over signing of this MoU between the two premier institutes of Central India and also promised all his help in the development of infrastructure and research to foster the innovative cancer care applications.

The MoU is expected to increase the joint research as well as development of solutions for preventive & curative aspects of cancer care.

Dr. P. M. Padole, Director, VNIT also expressed his satisfaction over the development & assured all the help from his side.
