- Gorgeous Gorewada celebrates Bird Week-2021
5th to 12th November is celebrated as Bird Week in Maharashtra to mark the birthday of Aranya Rushi; Sri. Maruti Chitampalli, that falls on 5th November and the birthday of the Birdman of India; Dr. Salim Ali, that falls on 12th November.
Gorewada Reserve Forest is home to around 250 species of birds that includes the resident as well as the winter migratory birds. Gorewada Project, FDCM Ltd., Nagpur celebrated Bird Week-2021 at Biodiversity Park & Nature Trail at Gorewada to create awareness among the people, especially youths, about importance of birds in nature, endangered species/habitat, migration of birds, security to their habitats and conservation of birds. From 5th to 12th November, daily event of bird watching was conducted at Biodiversity Park. Students, bird watchers, Nature lovers, morning walkers actively took part in all the events.
As winter migrants had arrived at Gorewada lake, the enthusiastic bird watchers also got to observe migratory species like Gadwall, Brahminy Duck, etc. More than 50 species could be observed in and around the lake. The week-long programme for birds would definitely help to create awareness about the winged beauties among the common masses.
Ms. Kalpana Chinchkhede, AM (MP), Gorewada Project, FDCM Ltd., under the guidance of Sri. Pramod Panchbhai, Divisional Manager, Gorewada Project, Nagpur and Sri. H.V. Madbhushi, ACF-2, Gorewada Project, Nagpur; co-ordinated the event. Sri. Shubham Chhapekar, Biologist, Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park, Nagpur and the staff of Unit-1, Gorewada Project took efforts to conduct the programme successfully.
