Nagpur :- Children’s Day was celebrated in a unique way in Pediatrics Ward at AIIMS Nagpur on 14th November, Monday. For this one day children in ward 304 forgot that they have been crying to go home daily, that they were ill and that they were getting poked with needles by scary doctors and nurses! The whole ward lit up with graffiti, decorations, cartoons, floating balloons, toys and reading books. AIIMS Director & CEO Major Gen Dr. Vibha Dutta SM, gifted each child with tasty yet nutritious cookies and nutribars. She said ” These days, children have forgotten to enjoy childhood and parents feel pressured by demands of education and end up making children run from school to tutions to doing homework, with no scope for fun and play.
Let this be the day that adults and children alike enjoy the precious life experience called ‘childhood’, and it is an excellent gesture to make a difference for those who are ill and away from their home for their treatment!. Medical Superintendent [Offg] Dr. Manish Shrigiriwar congratulated the nursing and attending staff of pediatrics ward for their efforts towards making this day so memorable! Children themselves cut the ceremonial cake and sang songs! Dr. Abhijit Choudhary, Pediatric Intensive Care Specialist at AIIMS made sure that even the sickest child was well enough to eat a slice of cake that day. Dr. Akash Bang, Dr. Urmila Chauhan, Dr. Shikha Jain, Senior and Junior Residents and all the Pediatric department staff led by Dr. Meenakshi Girish worked hard to make this a unique day for the children and their parents.
As a contribution to the children in the society on this occasion of Childrens Day, the pediatrics department has also planned a workshop for parents to train in caregiving skills on 19th November, Saturday, at AIIMS Nagpur. Parents of children with challenging behaviours are expected to benefit immensely from this workshop.
