Nagpur :-In a major step towards enhancing safety and operational efficiency, Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has announced the installation of solar-powered, SIM-based CCTV cameras at the Balharshah Goods Shed. This innovative initiative aims to improve monitoring, ensure proper loading practices, and prevent potential derailments, thereby safeguarding personnel, assets, and consignments.
The Balharshah Goods Shed, a critical Group-I station, handles a substantial volume of iron ore and other commodities around the clock. Since the start of the fiscal year, the shed has processed 274 rakes, generating an impressive revenue of ₹203.28 crore. However, the heavy operational demand has underscored the need for improved oversight to ensure safety and efficiency.
The new CCTV system will provide real-time surveillance of loading and unloading activities, helping to:
Prevent improper loading practices that can lead to derailments.
Detect uneven distribution of consignments for immediate corrective action.
Mitigate risks of theft and damage to wagons during operations.
Unlike traditional CCTV systems, these advanced cameras operate independently of existing infrastructure, leveraging solar power and SIM-based connectivity. This innovative setup overcomes challenges such as interference with track-crossing cables and power supply issues, ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted monitoring process.
This marks the first deployment of such cutting-edge technology at the Balharshah Goods Shed, reflecting Central Railway’s commitment to adopting sustainable and efficient solutions for safety and operational excellence.
With this proactive measure, Central Railway continues to set new benchmarks in operational innovation, reinforcing its dedication to ensuring safety, efficiency, and stakeholder satisfaction.
