Nagpur :- Central Railway’s Electric Loco Shed, Ajni, has brought pride to Nagpur Division by securing the Second Prize in the prestigious Best Loco Cab Modification Competition held at Banaras Locomotive Works . Ajni shared this national-level honor with Kanpur Central and Visakhapatnam-Waltair Division , reinforcing Indian Railways’ push towards innovation and crew comfort.
The award-winning modifications were executed on Loco No. 33330 / WAG-9HC, a high-horsepower broad-gauge AC electric freight locomotive. The redesigned cab boasts significant enhancements in aesthetics and functionality.
Notable upgrades include fresh painting, improved paneling, a redesigned dashboard, and a fabric headliner offering better insulation. Other thoughtful additions are foldable curtains, retro-reflective bands, LED ambient lighting, and an automatic perfume dispenser.
To improve operational efficiency and safety, advanced technology features were integrated, such as a second Display and Diagnostic Unit for the Assistant Loco Pilot, polycarbonate lookout glasses, electric wipers, QR codes for quick reference, heat-resistant roof paint, LED headlights, and vital safety systems including Crew Voice and Video Recording System, Real-Time Data Acquisition System, Remote Diagnostic System, and Real-Time Train Information System.
The modifications also prioritized crew welfare, introducing ergonomic seating, a high-speed fan, air conditioner, cool box, sun visors, and ample storage. Clear labeling of equipment across the cab, machine room, and underframe further ensures ease of maintenance.
This achievement reflects Central Railway’s unwavering commitment to innovation, safety, and enhancing crew experience on board.
