Mumbai : Farmers in many districts of Maharashtra suffered heavy losses due to excessive and heavy rainfall. An amount of Rs. 755 crore has been paid as compensation for such losses. Those farmers who have not yet received the compensation amount will be paid the same by March 31, said Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the Vidhan Sabha today.
The Chief Minister was responding to a question in this regard raised by member Prakash Slanke in the House. In his reply, Shinde said that there is an additional demand of Rs. 3,300 crore for compensation due to loss caused by heavy rains. The technical committee will examine the legality. Out of Rs. 6,800 crore assistance being paid to the farmers for various natural calamities, Rs. 6000 crore has already been paid. A motivational grant of Rs. 50,000 is being given to those farmers who are regularly repaying the loan. Till now Rs. 4,700 crore has been distributed under the grant and nearly 12 lakh farmers are benefitted from this, Chief Minister Shinde said.
